From the President

A message from our new President…..
03/17/2010

Hello Smooth Jazz Friends:

First of all, I’d like to thank all of you for attending Smooth Jazz Thursdays and Smooth Jazz events. I would like to especially thank you for your loyalty. Over the last 3 years our society has grown to 2400 (non paying) members. Recently, our founder, Mr. Dave Nabity stepped down as President as he is deeply involved in political activities in the city of Omaha. Many of you know me as the “Smooth Jazz Lady” and I have served as the Society’s Vice President and Marketing Chair for 3 years. I am honored to be your new President.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce your new officers and current Board Members:

Vice President: Jim Harvey
Secretary: Janet Miller
Treasurer: Becky Berg

Board members:
Bonnie Heinz
Ed Romero
Jeff Welch
Stephanie Brunt Howard
Lanaya Richardson
Tracy Crawford Kilgore

If you are interested in serving on the Board, please let me know. We are looking for people to chair the following committees; Special Events, Fund-raising, Membership and Volunteers.

In the past two weeks, we’ve hit the ground running and are very excited about taking the society to the next level. As you know, we’ve never charged for membership and because of that have limited funds to do what we want to do. For starters, we are in the process of obtaining non-profit status for the Society, so moving forward all donations and sponsorships will be 100% tax deductible. Below are just a few “exciting” things we are planning in the near future:

· Rolling out a VIP Membership ($20) that will include discounts to get into special events, coupons for food & drink and membership appreciation events
· Web site and e-mail sponsorship programs for businesses
· Themed parties
· Big name Smooth Jazz artists
· Wine Tastings
· Special “FUN”d raisers
· Battle of the Saxes, Silent Auction, All Star event
· Events at Soaring Wings and Slattery Wineries

Stay tuned….more fun to come!

Yours for Smooth Jazz,

Deb Skinner, President
Midwest Smooth Jazz Society
