This Thursday, we have another special show planned for you! Jazz fusion is the merging of jazz with other styles and techniques, most notably those of Rhythm and Blues, rock and funk. Fusion roots can be found in the works of Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, and Pat Matheny.

Jazz Fusion was created around the late 1960s. The term “jazz rock” is often used as a synonym for “jazz fusion” as well as for music performed by late 1960s and 1970s-era rock bands that added jazz elements to their music.

“The Todd Campbell Band” (TCB) includes a group of musicians who love to play music….. Smooth Jazz with a bit of classic Jazz, funk, soul, and a lot of attitude!

Wow, our “Singers & Sax” show at Thursday’s fundraiser was just amazing! On behalf of the Midwest Smooth Jazz Society, I would like to thank Kevin Kelly, the Producer and all of the musicians for a fantastic show. We were privileged to share some of the best performers in the world, right here at the Ozone. The singers: Dani Cleveland, Camille Metoyer Moten, Rayford Jones, Tyi Hakeem, Carol Rogers, Ase L’Bert. and on Sax: Ed Archibald, Brian “Saxkeys” Holland and Chad Stoner.

In addition to these phenomenal artists, The Kevin Kelley Band: Ishmael McCowan (Keyboards), Jacob Sorensen (Bass Guitar), John Mertz (Lead Guitar), and Kevin Kelley (Drums) played unique combinations of musical arrangements to support the musical cast. We are honored and blessed to know all of you! The saxophone trio performance was explosive and the standing ovation from the audience was a true testament to this performance.

Special thanks to our board and volunteers who donated the raffle items and worked the show: BJ Hines, Karla Washington, April Blake, Ronnie Buggs, Walt Wyckhoff, George Davis, Theresa Harman, Jeanne Long, Elaine Gibbs, Cheryl Nygren and Anne Johns. Last but not least, thank you Tony and your staff for serving us, and giving us a “Smooth Jazz Home” at the Ozone! We appreciate you.

The Hegg Brothers featuring Matt Wallace

Hey people, my name is Matt Wallace, youtube me with Maynard Ferguson if you have never heard of me. I have been a professional musician since I was the age of 12, I was born to do this. My biological parents were traveling road musicians who didn’t want to raise a child as a “carny” and dropped me into District 66. Nature or Nurture? I benefited from both….
Matt Wallace
The Hegg Brothers amaze me constantly with their curiosity and acumen. This is not a story to be overlooked. These guys are the real deal. Born to be musically tantric yet with such a humble disposition, they are sentient musicians from South Dakota and I never thought I would ever have to say that…

All 3 men are featured on Bruce Hornsby’s new charity record entitled, “Thick Custard.” Their version of “The Way It Is” is the final track on the project having been recorded live in The Old Market at Havana Garage November 9, 2012. Joining them that night was Branford Marsalis’s amazing young drummer Justin Faulkner, barely 20 years old.

Wallace, who made 10 records with Maynard Ferguson, also played in 70 countries during his decade long+ career with the Jazz Hall of Famer.

Jeremy Hegg as a composer was commissioned by the Omaha Symphony to write an Orchestral piece to commemorate the ten year anniversary of 9/11. It is titled “X”. The Symphony debuted it beautifully in the summer of 2011 at Mid Town Crossing.

The Hegg Brothers, from Sioux Falls, SD, tour with their creation, Holiday Jam, every December performing 13 dates this coming holiday season. They are releasing their 5th CD with that group, which Jon Hegg engineers and dials in ever year. (

The Hegg Brothers will be accompanied by special guest; the legendary Duke C on drums and the “Spaniard”, Carlos Figueroa on percussion.
