Midwest Smooth Jazz is proud to present on Thursday,April 24th at 6:30pm, Todd Campbell at the Ozone, in Omaha, for another Smooth Jazz Thursday.
Todd Campbell was born in 1963 at Offutt Air Force Base. After high school, he wanted to go to college; however, another opportunity presented itself when his oldest brother, Dale, asked him to join his Christian rock/pop band Morningstar and go on tour.
Back then, his influences were the prominent Christian rock groups like Degarmo and Key, Petra, and Sweet Comfort Band. However, his favorite guitarist then and still today is Phil Keaggy. Todd remembers meeting him in Salina, Kansas at a concert and it changed his life. While touring, Todd learned more about his faith in God and said it was the most influential time of my life, religiously and musically.
After two years playing in the band, Todd felt this chapter in his life was over, and he enrolled in the University of Nebraska in Omaha to pursue a Bachelor of Science in computers, with music as an elective.
He later auditioned for the Jazz Lab Band, and studied other Jazz greats such as Miles Davis, Grant Green, John Scofield, Herb Ellis, and Joe Pass.
Additionally, Todd continued playing in his local church, performed with local jazz musicians and played on local R&B and hip-hop albums. He was eventually asked to be a part of the 1neStudio.
Todd was able to fulfill one of his long-time dreams and released his first solo jazz album Simplicity. His new band “The Todd Campbell Band” (TCB) includes a group of musicians who love to play music….. Smooth Jazz with a bit of classic Jazz, funk, soul, and a lot of attitude!
The real key to our success is that we LOVE TO play and have fun.
