Midwest Smooth Jazz Society is proud to present STEVE RAYBINE at the Ozone

Midwest Smooth Jazz is proud to present on Thursday, January 22nd at 6:30pm, STEVE RAYBINE at the Ozone, in Omaha, for another Smooth Jazz Thursday.

Steve Raybine is a nationally known virtuoso vibraphonist who has earned a reputation for his exciting live performances and melodically-appealing and rhythmically-compelling original contemporary jazz compostions. Raybine’s unique and refreshing musical sound and style is captivating jazz audiences throughout the United States and Europe. Labeling Raybine as a jazz-only artist would be a huge mistake. He is equally talented at Funk, R&B, Pop and Latin sounds. You’ll only have to listen to his music once to understand why the Independent Artist Registry selected Raybine over thousands of other artists.

As the co-founder, co-musical director, and performer/composer of the critically-acclaimed progressive jazz ensemble AURACLE, he toured the United States and Europe and recorded two albums (Glider and City Slickers) on Chrysalis Records. During his eight-year tenure with Auracle, Raybine performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland; Frankfurt Jazz Festival in Frankfurt, Germany; the Sopot Jazz Festival in Sopot, Poland and numerous jazz venues in Los Angeles. Raybine’s freelance performance credits include Ed Shaughnessy, Dizzy Gillespie, Rick Braun, Ndugu Chancler, Michael Feinstein, Jack Jones, Roger Williams, Karrin Allyson, Dave Brubeck and as an opening act for Stanley Jordan. Raybine is a Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI) composer, an artist and clinician with Ludwig/Musser, endorses Mike Balter Mallets, and is the owner of SAR Music, LLC and BAD KAT Records, LLC.

Raybine’s music has been featured on over 150 national and international radio stations. In addition, his music has been showcased on the nations #1 smooth jazz online radio station,, and XM satellite radio. His first CD release was entitled “Steve Raybine: Balance Act.” His second CD, “Bad Kat Karma,” was released in late June, 2005, on BAD KAT Records, LLC. It was listed as one of the top 50 jazz CD’s in the U.K. for 2005 on the radio show, Fusion Flavors. His new critically-acclaimed CD release is entitled “In The Driver’s Seat,” also on BAD KAT Records. Steve and his band have played jazz festivals and venues throughout the United States. In The Gruv

Midwest Smooth Jazz is proud to present on Thursday, January 29th, at 6:30pm, In the Gruv at the Ozone, in Omaha, for another Smooth Jazz Thursday.

Churning out exciting and sassy Smooth Jazz, few bands do it better than In the Gruv. Their stylized versions of Maze, Stevie Wonder, Toni Braxton, and Lenny White tunes, as well as R&B and smooth jazz classics have been pleasing audiences for nearly three years.

In the Gruv is anchored by bass player Richard Payne. Richard grew up in a musical Omaha family and got involved early in the local music scene. After a 15-year absence from the Omaha area, Richard returned to get involved in several successful bands and recording projects. Now with his own band he is dedicated to bringing the music he loves to the local scene.

Linnetta Jones, the dynamic and sparkling lead vocalist for In the Gruv, has been with the band since its inception. Linnetta honed her vocal skills at Simpson College and has since lent her vocal talents to churches, local organizations, and special events. Always a joy to watch and to listen to, Linnetta loves to engage the crowd.

Keeping us “In the Gruv”, drummer and vocalist Robert Bennett has played professionally for 34 years. After moving to Denver, he attended the University of Colorado and studied for two years with Bill Roberts. In 1983 Robert moved to Las Vegas where he worked with top acts such as KC and the Sunshine Band, Cameo, The Coasters, The Imperials, and jazz great Jimmy Smith.

Multi-keyboardist Randy Long, our newest member, has been involved in music most of his life. A prolific composer, Randy has a degree in music composition and sound engineering and has been a long time contributor to the Omaha music scene. His other band project, Tossup, plays a mix of fusion jazz, has one CD to its credit and is working on a second.

Guitarist and vocalist Rod Griffith is a veteran of several local bands, including opening acts for national acts such as Marvin Gaye and Chicago. With Higher Pursuit, Rod was an early contributor to the Midwest Smooth Jazz Society and “Ozone Smooth Jazz Thursdays”. Always engaged with the music, Rod gives an entertaining and passionate performance every time.

That’s In the Gruv – a culmination of experienced and talented performers guaranteed to put a smile on your face and a healthy dose of groove in your day!

Clark & Company is a 2015 Omaha Entertainment & Arts Awards nominee and is made up of 17-year-old triplets and several young (UNO student) horn players. One of the songs off their first album was a finalist in the 10th annual International Acoustic Music Awards (IAMA) last January (alongside legends such as Emmy Lou Harris). They were also featured as Band of the Week in the Omaha World-Herald Go! section this past Thanksgiving Day.

Despite their young age, they are very professional and have been playing at venues — including the Slowdown, LIV Lounge, 402 Collective, PS Collective, House of Loom and the City of Omaha Bridge Beats Music Festival.
